RM2.6 mln spent on Kpg Haji Baki projects

KUCHING: The state government had spent RM2.6 million on rural transformation projects (RTP) at Kampung Haji Baki to date, said Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, said the projects included the construction of Haji Baki Hall at a cost of RM1 million.

“We are going to provide the present Haji Baki hawker centre with better facilities at a cost of RM600,000,” he told reporters after visiting SK Kampung Haji Baki yesterday.

He said the hawker centre will be equipped with better stalls, lighting, car park, tables and chairs, and a stage. “The project plan is still being drawn. It is going to be implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR),” he said.

After its completion, the hawker centre would be handed over to the village security and development committees (JKKK). Kampung Haji Baki’s three headmen will help to look after it.

In the meantime, he said under the RTP project, 63 houses in Batu Kitang area, and six houses in Haji Baki has been repaired, particularly the roofs, toilets, floors and other things.

“This good programme was mooted by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to help the needy,” he said.

Also present during the school visit were SK Kampung Haji Baki’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) vice president Ibrahim Ahmad, Kampung Haji Baki Block C village chief Rosli Ahmad Darus, Kampung Haji Baki Block B village chief Baslie Sulaiman, and SK Kampung Haji Baki headmaster Mohd Aliff Najmi Abdullah.
