KUCHING: A total of RM2 million has been approved for development projects in the constituency of Lawas by Rural Development Minister Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad.
Among the projects approved by the minister is a 600-metre road connecting Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Tukon and Kg Long Kachu costing RM500,000.
“This rural road will be built in view of the flood problem happening along the area previously as well as to ease the access of villagers to send their children to SJK Long Tukon,” he said in a statement issued today.
Last Friday, Abd Latiff was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to see the construction of a jetty at Kampung Awat Awat, Lawas.
He said the RM400,000 allocation was approved to meet the aspiration of the government to ensure the prosperity of the people in the area.
“The ministry also approved the construction of ten Housing Assistance Programme (PPRT) houses at a cost of RM600,000 in Lawas.
“However, the project involving a 20km rural road from Kampung Murud Suang to Long Tengoa, Lawas will be discussed for approval by the federal government. The estimated cost of the project is RM125.5 million,” he said.
Abd Latiff said the access of physical and internet connection was important and would be a game changer for the rural people.
“The ministry will not only propel rural development by building infrastructural facilities to reduce the urban-rural economic gap; it will also focus on improving the socio-economy of the B40 people through collaboration between the state and federal governments,” he said.
