KUCHING: A total of RM2,132,500 in minor rural project (MRP) grants were distributed to 124 recipients in the Belaga constituency.
The recipients comprised village safety and development committees (JKKKs), Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), houses of worship and organisations.
The cheques were presented by Utilities (Rural Electricity) Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang to community leader Temenggong Ajang Sirek who represented the recipients during a brief ceremony at Belaga District Office recently.
Liwan advised the grant recipients to use this MRP for good and bring benefits to the residents under their care.
“The JKKK also must also inform those under their care how the allocation was used,” he said, according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
He also reminded all villagers and longhouse residents to be vigilant and not take lightly the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the meantime, Liwan took the opportunity to express his appreciation to all parties who have cooperated with the Belaga District Office for the implementation of the Food Basket Assistance Programme.
He also thanked the police for implementing the roadblocks to control the movement in and out of the district.
Also present were Political Secretary to Sarawak Chief Minister Michael Mujah Lihan, Belaga District Officer Juan Ubit, Belaga District police chief DSP Brodie Brangka and Belaga District Education Officer Jalong Wan.
