MIRI: The construction work on a new market in Lutong is on track and expected for completion end of this month.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii, who was on a site inspection to see the work progress yesterday, said once completed, the RM200,000 market will be able to accommodate 50 traders.

Yii went on to reveal that the upgrading work on a native market or tamu in Maigold, Senadin is in its final stage.

He said the contractors are working on the last bit of their job which involves fixing the electrical wiring.

“For this tamu, once fully completed, it will have space for about seven stalls selling vegetables, food and beverages,” he said.

Asked on illegal extensions in residential buildings, Yii warned that stern action will be taken against house owners.

“We received numerous complaints on illegal extension, including of house owners converted their homes into workshops,” he opined.

He said MCC cannot allow this because workshops in residential areas are a nuisance.

“They cause pollution…noise pollution, air pollution. And they also can be traffic hazard…can also become fire hazard.

“I can tell you, MCC will act,” he added.
