MIRI: The construction work of a 200-metre wave breaker project worth RM25 million at Kampung Batu 1, Kuala Baram is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

“Construction is progressing well and is currently at 30 percent completion,” said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, adding that the project commenced last November.

Lee said this after inspecting the project site yesterday (Oct 4).

Accompanying him during the visit were Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Miri Divisional engineer Hiew Si Tien, Kampung Kuala Batu 1 village head Mohd Yusuf Sulaiman and the project consultant.

The project, once completed, will solve issues pertaining to floods and coastal erosion; benefiting more than 200 fishermen in the area.
