KUCHING: Compounds amounting to RM3.6 million were issued to errant individuals for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) from June 1 to Aug 27 this year.

Kuching police chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah revealed that a total of 1,382 compounds were issued during the movement control order (MCO) 3.0.

Among the top 10 most common offences committed was violating the curfew without any valid reason, with a total of 383 compounds issued.

“In addition, we also issued 279 compounds for failing to practise physical distancing and 173 for failing to wear face masks.

“A total of 136 compounds were issued for exceeding the passenger capacity in the vehicle.

“Meanwhile, 129 individuals were issued compounds for failing to register the MySejahtera app when entering premises,” he said.

Aside from that, the police also fined 79 individuals for carrying out activities in public places.

For individuals staying in the enhanced MCO (EMCO) areas, police found 58 residents violating the SOPs and issued them compounds.

Ahsmon stated that in the same period, police also issued 39 compounds to premises owners for operating without permission and 22 compounds to patrons of the said premises.

Since the public still needed police permits for inter-district travel purposes, he revealed that 17 individuals had been compounded for not having any travel permits.

He assured that Kuching police would remain committed to ensure that the SOPs were fully complied with to curb the Covid-19 transmission chain.
