RM3,000 fine for businessman who threatened couple

KUCHING: A businessman who threatened an engaged couple with a samurai blade after assuming the man had raped his girlfriend was hauled before the court here yesterday.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali fined Teo Lip Seng, 39, a sum of RM3,000 in default five months’ jail for the offence.

Teo had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both.

According to the charge sheet, Teo had threatened a 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman at a luxury apartment around 9.20am on Nov 21 last year.

The woman who was with her fiancé and children at their residence were approached by two men, one of whom (Teo) is known to the couple.

Teo pointed a samurai blade at the couple and ordered them to hand over their phones and laptops.

In addition, his accomplice also threatened the woman with a cleaver, holding it up to her face.

The court heard that Teo also berated the woman’s fiancé, claiming he had raped his girlfriend.

Investigation found that Teo had intentionally threatened the woman and her fiancé to cause fear to the couple.

Insp Mohd Azmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while Teo was not represented by counsel.
