KUCHING: Julau MP Larry Sng has praised the government’s move to allocate RM300,000 to every MP to carry out the food assistance programme in their respective areas.

“Covid-19 has affected all segments of society. More  people are unable to earn an income or put food on the table during the movement control order (MCO) because many of them—the needy, small businesses, B40 and M40 groups—are very dependent on physical work or daily income.

“So, for the government to come in and assist, and by not just giving the allocation to government MPs but also opposition MPs, it’s the right thing to do,” he said on Tuesday (June 28).

“The government may not be able to fully cover all areas, so they must utilise every single channel, including the respective service centres of all the MPs, to help those in need so that everyone can survive.”

On Monday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a special address, announced that under a new economic recovery package called Pemulih, the government would allocate RM300,000 to all MPs for the food assistance programme to help the needy.
