PADAWAN: The Hidup Mesra Teng Bukap community rehabilitation centre (Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti — PPDK) is in need of financial support to maintain the centre and fund refurbishing work on its building.

PPDK Hidup Mesra Teng Bukap chairman George Young Si Ricord Jr said he had been seeking donations and contributions from the local corporate sector and government agencies to raise about RM300,000 to fund the renovation of the building.

Thankfully, Kinder Life Power Agency — under the insurance company AIA Berhad — came to the centre’s aid.

Led by its head of agency Kelly Wong, the agency team visited the centre recently to have a better understanding of the operational needs and requirements of the trainees.

During the visit, Wong handed over the donation to George in a simple handing-over ceremony witnessed by staff and trainees of the centre.

“The year started off with an auspicious beginning with Kinder Life Power Agency coming to assist us and I wish to thank them,” said George.

He told Wong that there were 22 surrounding villages being serviced by the Teng Bukap health clinic and those with disabilities would be sent to PPDK Hidup Mesra Teng Bukap to undergo various therapy programmes. He added that the centre now had 42 trainees.

The centre, which is located approximately 60 km from Kuching, is currently occupying a temporary premises until the renovation of its own building is completed.

“I hope Kelly and her vast network of generous clients will be able to assist,” said George.
