KUCHING: The state government has set aside RM350 million for flood mitigation programmes at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme to resolve recurrent floods, said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Here in Stampin, floods occur frequently as mentioned by the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“This is because of the peat soil condition, so when there is a heavy rain fall, floods will definitely hit the area but do you see the Stampin incumbent (Chong Chieng Jen) showing up?

He tengok saja (just look),” said the Premier, taking a leaf out of Deputy Premier and SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian’s book by quoting the latter’s favourite catchphrase.

Abang Johari made the announcement during the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) political ceramah for Bandar Kuching and Stampin which was held at the compound opposite the Aeroville Mall in Stutong here, last night (Nov16).

He assured that after the GPS-SUPP candidate for Stampin Lo Khere Chiang wins in the 15th general election, he will do what he can to develop the area.

“This time, once Lo wins the election, he will work with (Sentosa assemblyman) Wilfred (Yap) to develop the area.

“I have checked and we have enough budget so we will do the DID (Department of Irrigation and Drainage) project for this area,” he added.

Among those present were Dr Sim, Lo, GPS candidate for Bandar Kuching Eric Tay, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan and Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
