RM4,000 for palliative care

SIBU: Komuniti Pelawan Sibu yesterday handed over a donation of RM4,000 to Sibu Palliative Care Association (SPCA) at Sibu Hospital

Among the missions of the association are to promote the development and advancement of excellent palliative care in Sibu in partnership or collaboration with hospitals, government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the community in general, and to assist patients get appropriate treatment and care.

Palliative Care Sibu (PCS) said the organisation was registered as Persatuan Penjagaan Paliatif Sibu (Sibu Palliative Care Association) with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) last February.

“Besides promoting the development and advancement of excellent palliative care in Sibu, the association also trains people on palliative care,” it said.

PCS is run by a committee of five headed by Ling Leh Ping and for the time being, operates from the Faculty of Medicine at SEGi University.

The cases which are currently being managed by the Care and Support Team of PCS are mostly cancer patients and some bed-ridden stroke patients.

PCS received cases which have been referred by specialists from Sibu Hospital as well as those referred by relatives and friends of the patients.
