SAMALAJU Industrial Park has successfully attracted investments totalling RM28.43 billion while Tanjung Kidurong Industrial Zone recorded RM17.45 billion investments since their establishment.

The figures excluded investments in the petrochemical sector by Petronas and Shell. International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Assistant Minister Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said this in response to a question by Majang Renggi (GPS-Samalaju).

He revealed that eight projects in the Samalaju Industrial Park have started operation employing about 6,600 people while another project was in the construction stage.

“About 40 percent of the employees are foreigners who are assigned to tasks that involved 3D environment (difficult, dirty and dangerous). The other 60 percent are locals who tend to shy away from hazardous environment,” he said.

Malcolm noted that there are two new industrial projects under the Sarawak Corridor Of Renewable Energy (SCORE) initiative in Bintulu Division namely, methanol project and a steel plant.

“The ground-breaking ceremony for the methanol project was performed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Sept 11 for the Sarawak Petchem Sdn Bhd in Kidurong Industrial Zone.
