PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday announced an incentive of RM450 for each Felda and Felcra settlers for the Aidilfitri celebration. He said the incentive payment involved an allocation of RM50 million for Felda from government allocations and RM44 million for Felcra from the agency’s profit.
“The incentive will be given to all settlers including non-members of Felda and Felcra,” he told reporters after chairing the Cabinet meeting here. He added that non-members would get RM100 each. Dr Mahathir said the incentive payment would be revised next year where recipient of living allowance would no longer be eligible to receive the incentive.
On some monopolies awarded by the previous government, Dr Mahathir said the government would review all monopoly policies either to be abolished, extended or reduced to a small number.
Asked on which corporation that government was looking at, he said: “There is a monopoly on the import of rice in Malaysia but there are other monopolies, procurement and all that. “So we have to look at the operation of monopolies to see whether we have to abolish that, or reduce or do whatever is good for the country.”
