KUCHING: A local man was penalised with a fine of RM4,500 or eight months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday (Jan 25).

He faced two charges of slapping his ex-wife and damaging the signal light of a car belonging to his ex-wife’s friend.

Mohd Roy Haslam Mohd Farious, 37, pleaded guilty after both charges were read to him by a translator in front of Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

To the first charge, the man from Sibu was accused of intentionally causing hurt to his ex-wife’s friend by slapping him with a rolled-up piece of document.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a penalty of up to one year’s jail or fine up to RM2000 or both if found guilty.

The court ordered the man to pay a fine of RM1,500 in default three months’ jail.

Mohd Roy was also charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for the RM400 damage he caused.

For that the court sentenced him to a fine of RM3,000 or five months’ jail.

He committed the offence at a car park of the Syariah Courthouse Building at Jalan P.Ramlee at 11.15 am on March 30, 2021.

It is believed that he slapped the victim accusing him of interfering with his divorce matters.
