RM450k in loan approved for longhouse construction

KUCHING: The state government through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has approved a loan valued at RM450,000 for the construction of a new longhouse in Tanjung Manis.

Urban Development and Natural Resources assistant minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the new longhouse will comprise 15 doors.

“During a visit to Tanjung Manis yesterday (Saturday), my entourage and I discussed with longhouse head Baki Bujuk in Sebayang about the construction of the new longhouse.

“The Sarawak government has approved a loan of RM450,000 to build a 15-door longhouse where each door gets RM30,000 to buy household appliances.

“This will be repaid in monthly instalments (RM100 per month) for 25 years without interest,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 18).

On Saturday (July 17), the Kuala Rajang assemblyman paid a visit to Tanjung Manis to discuss on the new longhouse project.

Earlier, Len also attended a meeting to discuss on the current issues affecting the community at the Tanjung Manis district office.

Joining him during the meeting were Tanjung Manis acting district officer Ismail Kasah, Pemanca Morshidi Morais and other community leaders.

Len also stopped by the Pasaria Belawai market to meet with the stall traders.

Before returning to Sarikei, he also visited and monitored the latest development of the Belawai Beach project which is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

“Thankfully, Tanjung Manis district did not record any positive Covid-19 cases this week and at the same time, Sarikei district has seen a decrease in cases,” he said.
