KUCHING: A total of RM48,500 has been allocated for the Kenyalang Wet Market to undergo its facelift.

This facelift will be more thorough as compared to its last one back in 2009, which only consists of paintjob.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Chairman for Kenyalang Wet Market and Paddy Traders, Cr. Goh Tze Hui said the facelift would consist of paint job, refurbishing and cleaning.

“We will not just paint the building, we will also replace some structures such as the ceiling and would also replace roofings, plastering and repair some structures if needed.

“The works will start immediately and we hope that it can be completed in two months time,” said Goh in a press conference held at the market yesterday.

The councillor also said that the fans of the market have also been replaced as part of the facelift work.

Other markets will also be given similar treatments and it would be undertaken one by one.

Also speaking at the press conference was the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Wing chief Milton Foo who said that the request to undertake the facelift was made last year by the traders of the market.

He said that during a walkabout, traders made a request to have the market painted and thought that the market would need more than just a paint job.

“Therefore, through councillors from MBKS we were able to undertake this initiative and I would like to thank all of them and also MBKS Mayor to enable the facelift work possible,” said Foo.
