KUCHING: The construction and improvement of the drainage system at Stampin Resettlement Scheme (SRS) (Phase l) is only at the first stage and the10-month project is scheduled to commence this month.

According to Cr Goh Tze Hui, MBKS has studied all the issues and details, and come up with a Master Development Plan on drainage improvement at the area.

“Thus, the first phase of the project will cover Lanes 7, 9, 11, 37, 37A and 37B.

“MBKS will immediately implement the project after securing the funding worth RM5 million allocated by the state government which to be fully utilized for this upgrading project,” he said at a press conference at MBKS Council Chamber here, yesterday.

He said those unfounded accusations were indeed puzzling.

“Should there be some people who may not understand the procedures on the allocation of funds for the various projects, please do not speak publicity without knowing the facts,” he pointed out.

He added that MBKS also urged people’s representative not to use his or her own views to analyse the cost of the entire project to confuse the people.

“MBKS tries so hard to bid for the funding to improve public facilities for the benefit of the people living in the area.

“Please bear in mind that the assessment rates collected from residents in the area are barely enough to cover the basic services provided to them.

“When the residents were told of the project, they all looked forward to it.

“We need to remind all interested parties that MBKS is always subjected to scrutiny and all its projects and funds are audited. MBKS always practice the highest integrity and transparency on such project matters as they are for the people,” he said.

Cr Goh also disclosed that the project has been handled over to the contractor for implementation.
