SADONG JAYA: A total of RM500 million has been allocated by the state government to repair the coastal road from the northern part of the state to the south for a distance of 896km.

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi explained that the project was divided into 23 packages including PA4 package which covered 9.65km from Batang Sadong Bridge to Kampung Sungai Ladong and cost about RM11.7 million.

He said the project had commenced officially and heavy machines had already been deployed.

“We expect it to be completed in 12 months’ time and it has already been tendered out to qualified contractors.

“The standard road is a two-lane single carriageway from the area to the main and smaller junction of the coastal road,” he added.

Julaihi spoke when officiating at the launch of the road repair project of the coastal road along Kampung Sungai Buloh/Sebuyau to Samarahan here yesterday.

He added for the time being, two packages — PA4 and PB1 in Miri — which covered Sungai Nyalau to Bakam had been awarded to contractors.

“The remaining 21 packages will be implemented in stages as the designs by the state Public Works Department (JKR) and the consultants have to be completed in more detail.

“There are packages that are still in the design stage, others which are between 30 and 50 per cent completed and others which are ready for tendering either by year end or early next year.”

Julaihi said that another package was in the evaluation process. The entire project was expected to be completed by 2021 or 2022 based on the distances of the road which had to be repaired.

“This effort is to ensure that the coastal road is comfortable for all road users who choose to use the road.

“Because we know it will be relied on heavily during the festive seasons, school holidays and weekends, it has to be upgraded and repaired,” he added.

Julaihi added, “It is the priority and the agenda of the state government, especially Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as we understand the needs of the rural dwellers.”

Yesterday, the project agreement letter from JKR was also presented to KACC Construction Berhad general manager Azman Atan.
