SERIAN: Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong want tourism products here to be enhanced and promoted to attract more local and foreign visitors, said.

He said Serian had many tourism products such as Danu Lake, KLB Garden and caves which should be developed to the taste of tourists.

Manyin, who is also Tebedu assemblyman, said that Serian also had other attractions such as bung (mountains) which had to be developed.

He said Bau had three well-developed bungs, namely Bung Bratak, Bung Jagoi, and Bung Singai, all of which have become very popular with both local and foreign tourists.

He said these mountains together are able to attract at least 200 to 300 visitors on any weekend.

“We in Serian also have many bungs but there has never been an attempt to develop them,” he said, giving the example of Bung Sadong at Tae.

He challenged anyone who wished to start a bung development project in the area, saying that he would allocate RM50,000 for this to be done.

He said this when speaking at the Gotong Royong Mega event at Serian Community Park here yesterday.

“The lake garden here will soon be expanded further, with a second lake added with a cost of about RM9.6 million.

“The process is about four percent done and hopefully it will be finished by the end of this year,” said Manyin.

He said that KLB Garden, a mini zoo, could even achieve 2,000 visitors in a day.

“These are among the tourism products in Serian and Tebedu which need to be promoted by the council in order to attract more visitors,” he said.
