RM500k in grants for organisations in Serian

Date:

KUCHING: A number of organisations in the Serian parliamentary constituency have received minor rural project (MRP) grants for their activities.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said nearly RM500,000 in MRP grants were doled out to village safety and development committees (JKKKs), parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Although we are still in the Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), it does not stop me from carrying out my duties as an MP.

“At noon yesterday and this morning, I handed over nearly RM500,000 in MRP cheques to dozens of JKKKs, PTAs and NGOs,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Aug 7).

At the same time, Riot also doled out education assistance to students who are pursuing their tertiary education at several local universities.

Meanwhile, on the vaccine rollout in the constituency, the MP commended the good reception by the people towards the Covid-19 vaccines.

He said nearly all of the eligible vaccine recipients in Serian have been inoculated.

“100 percent of the total eligible population have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 88 percent have received the second dose. It is expected that in a few days, all of the eligible recipients will be fully vaccinated,” he said.

At the same time, he also urged Serian residents to remain vigilant amid the current surge of Covid-19 cases in the area.

“I call on them to continue to cooperate with the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee and the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

“Please comply with the guidelines issued under the Phase 2 of the NRP and the standard operating procedures,” he said.
