RM55.8 million approved for 25 local authorities (LAs)

THE Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM55.8 million for 25 local authorities (LAs) including Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to implement 356 infrastructure projects this year.

These projects include provision of street lightings, traffic lights, footpaths, roads, public toilets, drainage, town beautification and rural facilities and amenities, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Out of these, 179 projects have been completed and the remaining projects are at various stages of implementation,” he said when delivering the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) winding-up speech during the DUN sitting yesterday (Nov 13).

He added the ministry had also received RM15.9 million from the federal MLGH for local authorities in the state to carry minor projects.

“This amount is to implement 316 minor infrastructure projects for this year,” he said.

Uggah said for the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme (PPKB), the ministry was allocated with RM6.69 million which has benefited 452 heads of households.
