LAWAS: A total of 70,000 sticks of contraband cigarettes and 19 boxes of canned beer worth RM55,350 was seized during a raid at Kampung Tanjung Surabaya around 10.30 pm last Wednesday.
The raid, codenamed ‘Ops Libas’, was conducted by Limbang’s 12th Battalion ‘C’ Inspection Branch of the General Operations Force (PGA) team.
According to the PGA, the operation bust transpired upon their arrival at the riverbank of the village where the team came across a boat that was noticeably carrying goods onto the mainland.
“After realising the presence of our team, the boat quickly fled and left behind the unloaded goods,” it said.
The confiscated goods were handed over to the criminal investigation department of the Lawas District Police headquarters for further actions and investigations.
