KUCHING: The construction of a new Fire Station (Category D) in Selangau has been approved with a total cost of RM6 million.

Currently it is undergoing the design process and its tender process will be implemented by the end of this month.

“It will take about 18 months to complete the project and we hope that everything goes smoothly,” said Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Datu Dr. Penguang Manggil (pic).

He pointed this out during the Question & Answer (Q&A) session of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting held yesterday.

Penguang was replying to the question submitted by the State Assemblyman of Tamin Ir. Christopher Gira Sambang.

Meanwhile on a different note, Penguang disclosed that currently there are a total of 13 public toilets under the jurisdiction of Serian District Council with an additional of a few more to be built at Louis Junction and areas nearby Serian’s Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).

“Since Serian is now the main route for those going to other districts of Sarawak and also to Indonesia through Entikong, it has been proposed that more public toilets are to be built around the area.

“The maintenance and operations of these toilets are handled by the ministry and the local council. Grading of the toilets are even conducted by the federal Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Urban Wellbeing.

“Meanwhile, on the maintenance, it is  being outsourced by the local authorities,” said Penguang who is also Marudi Assemblyman.
