LIMBANG: The 1.8km Sungai Limbang waterfront project costing RM60mil is expected to be completed in stages and will be opened to the public in June.

Deputy Minister I for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the project would change the landscape of Limbang when fully completed in 2024.

“The first phase was 1km and the second phase was 800m while the third phase was building the connecting roads for the first and second phases, which were cut off.

“This project has experienced several problems with riverbanks collapsing, resulting in work delay,” he said, according to Sarawak Public Communications Unit.

He said the ministry had discussed with the Sarawak government that both locations (first and second phases) facing the collapsed riverbanks would be removed from the original plan to avoid delay in the completion dates.

Meanwhile, he said the project to build a two-way link road comprising four routes as long as 1.16km would be implemented under the Northern Region Development Agency at a cost of around RM20mil, which is expected to be completed by the end of June.
