THE state government has allocated RM65.2 million for the Sekuau Water Treatment Plant upgrading project.

Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the project would benefit 763 households in Stapang Town, Sibu and its surrounding areas.

He said the project has been approved for implementation under the Rural Development Ministry and is now in its final stages of the design phase.

“Its tender is expected to be called in December this year.

“The project would increase the capacity of the plant from 0.65MLD (million litres per day) to 7.65MLD and improve the water supply system in Stapang Town and its surrounding areas,” he said during the DUN sitting yesterday (Nov 9).

Abdul Rahman added that an upgrading project for the water treatment plant in Selangau Town has also been submitted to the Rural Development Ministry to be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

“This project costs RM30 million and the plant will be upgraded from 7MLD to 20MLD,” he said.
