KUCHING: A total of RM750,000 have been allocated to the Kuala Rajang constituency under the state government’s Agriculture Facilitation Fund (AFF).

Assistant Minister of Urban Development and Resources Datuk Len Talif Salleh, in revealing this, said, “The total funds received by applicants in 2021 is almost RM400,000 and the rest will be disbursed after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Assistance in the form of chillies, watermelons, pumpkins, fertilizers, kelulut and pesticides will be distributed to successful applicants throughout May.

“This involves three villages – Kampung Belawai, Kampung Jerijeh and Kampung Rajang; it aims to diversify agriculture and income of smallholders,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Len said cash crops were suitable to be planted in the Tanjung Manis zone due to the suitability of the soil.

“Moreover, the quick-growing crops can be sources of income for the locals, thus generating the economy in the Tanjung Manis zone,” he said.

He added aid had been distributed to six recipients form Kampung Belawai, Kampung Jerijeh and Kampung Rajang under the Mukah Division Agricultural Development Programme.

He said each recipient received RM5,000 in the form of agricultural goods to assist them in growing their crops.

Recently, the Kuala Rajang assemblyman also distributed zakat contributions to the needy, senior citizens, the disabled and single mothers at the Tanjung Manis service centre.
