MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here has seized a tanker with 42,000 litres of diesel worth RM76,000 on board.

MMEA Miri chief Captain Md Fauzi Othman said a patrol unit made the seizure on Wednesday at 1.05pm at about four nautical miles off the Kuala Baram riverbank.

Three locals and an Indonesian aged between 32 and 40, who were crew members, were detained.

“The detention was over the diesel being transported with expired documentation,” he said in a statement today.

All crew members and the tanker were escorted to MMEA Miri jetty for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under the Petroleum (Safety Measures) (Transportation of Petroleum by Water) Regulations 1985.

The tanker’s crew members have been detained for questioning.
