MUKAH: The Sarawak government has allocated RM80 million in its 2021 budget to continue helping the poor repair their dilapidated houses under its home improvement programme, PPRMS.

The Penambahbaikan Rumah Miskin (PPRMS) programme was financed from the state’s minor rural project (MRP) funds of the people’s representative, thus the acronym MRP-PPRMS.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the programme was introduced in 2018.

“It was aimed at assisting the B40 group to repair their dilapidated houses to enable them to have a decent home,” he said when tabling the 2021 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting in Kuching on Monday.

Therefore, he said for 2021, RM80 million will be allocated for the continuation of the programme.

The Sarawak government proposed RM9.832 billion for the 2021 budget, of which RM6 billion was for the development fund and RM3.832 billion for operating expenditures.

Last Wednesday  at an event in Oya, Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister and Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that the programme was implemented through gotong-royong (communal work) by the village committee, and the cost for each house was about RM5,000 up to RM15,000, depending on the need for repair.
