KUCHING: The Sarawak government through the State Disaster Committee has, so far, approved allocations of RM840,000 for the building of new longhouses.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said new longhouses had to be built to replace the old ones which were destroyed by fires.

“Last year, I also allocated a Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund of RM85,000 to Rh Langat Anthony Collins to clear its ‘taba’ (land) for preparation for a new longhouse,” he said during the earth breaking ceremony of the new Nanga Majang longhouse at Tinjar in his Facebook post.

Penguang added that in Tinjar, phase one of its rural electric supply projects was being carried out. He said road repair work would also commence soon.

At the event, Penguang, who is Marudi assemblyman, had a ‘berandau’ (dialogue) session with the villagers at Rh Langat Anthony Collins’ temporary shelter.

He also presented an MRP cheque for RM15,000 to the Rh Langat Anthony Collins Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and RM5,000 to its women bureau.
