KUCHING: A total of RM90 million has been allocated to rebuild the Kupang-Bajau Road in Saratok, said its MP Ali Biju.
He said presently, the project, which would be implemented by the Federal Rural Development Ministry, was in the tender phase, a process that would take six months.
“The Kupang-Bajau Road is in poor condition, especially when it rains.
“I will engage with the Rural Development Ministry and ask that the project be expedited,” he said when met today.
Ali said the allocation had been approved and that the method of the procurement would be decided by the ministry.
The MP added various development projects had been planned for the constituency in 2021 and they ranged from school repair projects to infrastructure projects.
“SK Abang Leman is being built while the resurfacing of roads in Ulu Krian and Ulu Kabo and the repair of dilapidated schools will be implemented.
“This is particularly for the areas in Ulu Kabo where the school will be relocated and a new building constructed,” he said.
Ali, who is Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said the current site of the school was no longer deemed safe.
“We will hold a dialogue with the people of Ulu Kabo to inform them of the decision. This will be done in two weeks’ time,” he said.
On the progress of the projects in Saratok this year, Ali said most of the projects were unaffected by the movement control order (MCO).
“But there are still slight delays because the contractors were unable to communicate with the government agencies due to the closure of government offices earlier this year,” he said.
