Road bully fined RM3,000

KUCHING: A licensed moneylender was sentenced to a fine of RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today (Nov 7) for damaging a vehicle in a road bully incident.

The accused, Chai Choon Jie, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charges, he is accused of intentionally damaging a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) causing a loss of RM500.

The accused, who was driving a compact vehicle, committed the offence at Jalan Batu Kawa around 11.05am on October 30.

If convicted, the accused can be punished with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine or both.

Failure to pay the fine will result in five months imprisonment.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant had to stop his MPV on the side of the road near a traffic light on Jalan Batu Kawa.

While stopping, the complainant was approached by a disgruntled man who got out of his vehicle to punch and kick the victim’s car door.

As a result of the incident, the victim’s car was damaged and the estimated loss was around RM500.

Prior to the incident, the accused had honked his car horn many times at the victim for unknown reasons.

Concerned about his safety, the complainant came forward to file a police report for further action, leading to the arrest of the accused on November 3.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad requested the court to impose appropriate punishment on the accused as a lesson.
