An excavator belonging to Samling is seen reconstructing the collapsed section of the road this afternoon (Nov 10).

MIRI: A massive part along KM12 of the timber road in interior Baram collapsed late Tuesday evening (Nov 9) due to heavy downpour.

The huge gap along the stretch after it caved in has made the road impassable to any vehicles.

Samling Group of companies’ this afternoon (Nov 10) deployed an excavator to help reconstruct the collapsed section of the road.

A frequent user of the road, Dominic Kallang said, “The incident has made the road impassable to any vehicles as a wide hole prevents them from passing through. Many have made a U-turn since yesterday due to the incident.”

The road is the only way in and out for Baram folk from the interior areas or those from Miri to commute (back and forth) or to the nearest town, Lapok.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported when the road collapsed.

It was believed that the incident happened due to unstable soil conditions after heavy downpour.
