Expected to complete in the next two years, the people in Miri, Marudi, Telang Usan and Beluru districts will enjoy better roads.

According to a statement by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) yesterday, the projects have started this year and are progressing positively despite being delayed by the movement control order enforcement in March.

“There are site clearing, earthwork and drainage work taking place in most sites.

“Among these projects are improvements of existing access roads to Daleh Long Peluta, Long Miri and Uma Bawang, improvement and construction of roads within Long Lama and Long Bedian, improvement of access roads from the main logging road to Long Semiang and improvement of existing road from Long Banga Junction to Pa Dalih.”

Recoda added that besides the 12 projects, eight other road projects were still at the design stage while another seven were at the tender stage.

“Meanwhile, feasibility studies are being carried out for 20 water supply projects. As for the power supply, one project is still at design stage while another one project at tender stage,” it said.

All these projects costing RM1.5 billion are under the purview of Highland Development Agency (HDA) and once completed, they will improve connectivity and bring economic activities to the areas.

HDA area covers approximately 18,463 km square with an estimated population of 100,000.
