KUCHING: Works have commenced on the RM5.38 million road upgrading project for Kampung Bako, said Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
The project will take twelve months to complete and will transform the outlook of the village as well as benefit the dwellers, he pointed out.
“The Kampung Bako concrete road upgrading project that will be implemented has a width of 4.5 metres. It can be used by vehicles such as cars as well as small lorries and will definitely benefit the local villagers.
“This will enable economic and social activities to be implemented more easily such as transporting agricultural and fisheries products to the market.
“This reduces transportation costs and will improve the standard of living of the community and will allow more comfort,” he said.
He said this when met after witnessing the handover ceremony of the Kampung Bako concrete road upgrading site today.
Road is a crucial element in delivering progress in terms of infrastructure development, the Demak Laut assemblyman pointed out.
“A good road network ensures a boost in terms of socio economy, culture, wellbeing and prosperity of the people in the area,” he said.
Dr Hazland said the project worth RM5.38 million was approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.
“We are grateful and thankful to the chief minister and the GPS government who have approved the allocation to implement the project. This fulfils the dreams of the constituents for better development.
“This project will also transform the landscape of Kampung Bako into a modern traditional village in line with the well-known Bako National Park which is recognised at the international level,” he said.
