SIBU: Authorities here are setting up roadblocks following the conditional movement control order (CMCO) issued by the government, starting Wednesday (Jan 13).

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said roadblocks would be manned in two areas here at midnight.

“Two roadblocks are at Paradom roundabout and Batu 12, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu respectively

“Meanwhile, the roadblock in Jalan Pasai-Siong was set up last Saturday (Jan 9),” he said when met after visiting his men at the Paradom roundabout roadblock on Wednesday (Jan 13).

ACP Stanley said four policemen and eight members of the Malaysian Armed Forces would be manning the roadblock.

“We only allow those listed in essential services to be allowed for inter-district and inter-zone travel.

“For those who want to move in and out of the red zone, they need police permission.”

He said the public could go to any police station nearest to them to get the inter-district travel permit.

“For the first two days of CMCO, we will only advise those who do not have a travel permit to turn back while appropriate action will be taken for offences after that.”

He stressed that under Regulation 7 Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures in Infected Local Areas) 2020, those detained travelling between districts without permit could be fined RM1,000.
