SARATOK: The Roban Festival is scheduled to take place from Nov 10 to 12, featuring 19 major events.
Among the highlights will be the Jaguh Lumba Perau Sungai Seblak boat race and a tug-of-war on water.
The iconic “Pansuh Tiga Serumpun” competition will also be a top attraction.
Other interesting activities include Pekan Sari Roban, a mini fun fair, exhibitions and sales of animation art and handicrafts, free health screenings, registration for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), and a fireworks show.
“There are surely many individuals who are excited following the last time it was held in 2015,” according to Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.
He noted that the celebration this year is more exciting since the three state assemblies, Kalaka, Krian and Kabong, as well as the Roban Subdistrict Office, are working together to make it a success.
“I’m sure many people miss the boat race at the Roban Festival. If I’m not mistaken, the last time it was held was in 2001.
“Thus, we expect 8,000 visitors to come to watch the 10, seven and five rower boat races in addition to the tug-of-war and various other programmes,” he said after the organising committee meeting here, which was also attended by Tr Spancer and Nur Elffi Amir, representing the Krian and Kabong assemblymen, respectively.
Mohamad emphasised the economic aspect of the festival, aiming to “provide opportunities for the community to do business. We will make sure that this festival can stimulate the local economy and foster community friendships.”
It is also seen as a way to make Roban a renowned district for visitors to explore and strengthen relationships among residents, he added.
To attract more visitors, lucky draws with mystery prizes will be part of the festivities.
