KUCHING: The role of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) was lauded by Assistant Utilities (Water Supply) Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

“The Sarawak government greatly appreciates the assistance and cooperation from NGOs in helping to improve the community’s wellbeing.

“This includes NGOs in the Pantai Damai area and outside of it where they are seen to be actively playing their roles,” he said at the presentation of activity grants to the NGOs ceremony in Pantai Damai on Wednesday.

At the function, he doled out activity grants from the state government to 44 NGOs in the constituency and surrounding areas worth RM145,800.

“Every year, we will hold a programme like this to ensure that every organisation can carry out their activities smoothly,” he said.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman said among the NGOs that were presented with the grants were the committee of village heads (KK), surau, churches, mosques, schools, Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) and others.

At the same time, he also urged the management of NGOs to increase activities involving the local community in various aspects in the state.

He said by doing this, it would benefit the residents through community activities and programmes organised.

Looking forward to helping Sarawak
