MIRI: Voters in Bekenu have been told to ensure the victory of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the Bekenu seat come the 12th state election.

Bekenu incumbent Datuk Rosey Yunus wants the people to stand in one spirit to make sure that GPS wins and let the winning be a gift for caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“There are still many more developments to be carried out in Bekenu, and this can only be realised if we have a stable government, diverse and strong financial resources like what the chief minister has done in the effort to improve the state’s finances.

“Therefore, GPS must rule again and for that GPS must win. We are the ones who will ensure this victory,” she said when speaking at the launch of phase two of the Niah Waterfront project here on Monday (Nov 29).

Rosey, who is also the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister, said that under Abang Johari, the state government through her ministry was able to carry out various initiatives such as providing the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS), maternity assistance, Children’s Early Education Institutions (IPAKKs) special annual grant, Kenyalang Gold Card, death compassionate assistance, and special aid for kidney patients.

On another note, she conveyed her appreciation to the state government for the implementation of mega projects in Niah and Batu Niah.

“These projects include the Batu Niah Waterfront, Batu Niah Market, upgrading facilities in Niah National Park such as building of the Niah river bridge in Lobang base and creating buggy trails to Niah Cave,” she said.

In addition, she said she also wants the Niah River to be a fishing destination for tourists in view of the presence of giant prawns.

“With that, we want to further develop this river with the construction of a fort and gabion wall to prevent erosion of the riverbank,” she said.

She also hoped Niah which is now a sub-district can be upgraded to a full district by the year 2030 in order to further boost development in the area.
