RTD receives updates on EES rates

KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has received an official statement from the consulate general of Brunei Darussalam here on the updates on the Exit and Entry System (EES) rates charges which will take effect on December 12.

According to its statement here yesterday, the EES charges for road users which utilise all its roads through its control posts in Brunei are as follows:

1.All vehicles with a passenger load of not more than seven persons including the driver will be charged BND3.00 for a one way trip.

2. All vehicles with more than between seven to 25 passengers including the driver, such as vans or mini buses will be charged BND6.00 for every vehicle one way trip

3. All vehicles with a passenger load of not more than 25 people including the driver, such as bus, will be charged BND10.00 for every vehicle for one way trip.

4. All commercial vehicles which do not need an x-ray machine inspection will be charged BND6.00 for every vehicle for a one way trip and

5. Every commercial vehicle which needs an X ray machine inspection will be charged BND10.00 for every vehicle for a one way trip.

Service charge will be imposed on every vehicle regardless of the vehicle or car registration be it with the Sultanate’s registration or from outside the Sultanate.

The consulate also said every service charge will be exempted for all pedestrians, bicycle riders and motorcycle riders as well as government cars or official overseas vehicles for official duties.

The charges will also be exempted for all Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ vehicles, ambulance, Bomba, Police and hearst and vehicles used by any official persons
under the Diplomatic Privileges (Vienna Convention) Act (Chapter 117) and Consular Relations Act (Chapter 118).

The Sarawak RTD said they welcomed the updates on the EES rates by the Brunei government as it can ease the burdens of Malaysians especially Sarawakians crossing the border from Miri, Brunei, Limbang and Lawas for work, studies and social visits.

The updates in the rates was also hoped to lessen the burdens of all imports and exports of goods and simultaneously activate the economic sector between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam as well as fostering a closer rapport between Malaysians and Bruneins, an RTD official added.
