KUCHING: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak continues to provide a platform for sape music enthusiasts in its endeavour to elevate the music industry.

Its director, Wan Azhan Wan Hamat, noted that sape music is synonymous with Sarawak.

“Promoting this music on the national entertainment stage will allow admirers of the country’s musical art to learn and share,” he said during the Sape Junior competition press conference at RTM Kuching here today (May 5).

Wan Azhan highlighted that sape music is now not only played during festivals in Sarawak but has also made its way into contemporary music.

Recognising its significance, RTM has taken steps to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, the Sape Kuching Association, and the Sarawak Orang Ulu Association to ensure the success of the Sape Junior Heritage Art Programme 2024.

Meanwhile, the six finalists will compete in the Sape Junior event on May 11 at 9 pm at the P. Ramlee Auditorium, RTM Kuching and the final will be broadcast live on TV2 on May 25, at 9 pm.
