MUKAH: A RM5-million Rumah Dayak has been proposed to be built here.

Its proposed location is near the town’s prominent landmark Bangunan Pehin Setia Raja.

Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Mukah branch chairman Francis Atan said the building would cater to the needs of the growing Dayak population here.

“It will also be a proper venue for SDNU and local Dayaks to hold their social activities and meetings,” he said during a SDNU Mukah Branch Gawai Dayak dinner at a hotel here recently.

Francis, who said SNDU is now in the process of raising money for the project, revealed that the organisation is in the process of looking for a piece of land suitable for a cemetery.

They have looked at a site between Mukah and Selangau and had applied to the Land Survey Department to acquire it.

Francis then proposed that a Dayak be appointed as a Temenggong or Pemanca here.

Also present at the dinner were Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, Tellian assemblyman Yusibnosh Balo and Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi.
