KUCHING: Imagine men in high heels and fluffy tutu skirts running in public —  yes, they will be doing so for a noble cause on Oct 27, hoping to raise funds for cervical cancer treatment, during the Pink & Teal Mini Run.

Hosted by a newly established non-profit organisation, Pink & Teal founder Dr Abigail Susil said they were committed in their aim to raise funds for underprivileged women in rural areas to undergo diagnosis and treatment.

“We hope that we are able to raise at least RM100,000. To date, we have received RM10,000,” she said at a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at Baitulmakmur building here yesterday.

Dr Abigail, who is a trainee doctor at Sarawak General Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology, said the fund was necessary to set up a “mobile medical unit that will screen and treat women in precancerous stage.

“The first one-stop screen and treat mobile medical unit centre to set up will be in Kota Samarahan to assist women from small villages.

“It would be in the form of logistics, where one unit will comprise two doctors, one consultant, one medical officer, two nurses and one driver,” she explained.

“Among the highlights is the high-heel dance, 300m dash-run for both men and women and 1km family
walk.”

The Pink & Teal Mini Run will flag off its 21km run at 5am and 10km at 6am at the Old DUN building.
