BARAM: The communities at Long Terawan, Kampung Malinau, and Kampung Batu Bungan, are fortunate as they are now part of the global digital village along with the digital community in major cities and trade centres around the world, says Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala.

“This is all possible because of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s initiative and drive to build our digital infrastructure to support our state’s digital economy.”

He said this at the launch of the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MYSRBN), which was officiated at by Abang Johari in Long Terawan here on Tuesday (April 6).

He said MYSRBN was part of the digital projects currently being implemented by the state government throughout the state, including the rural areas.

“This is clear evidence that the digital economy policy has become a reality and is being enjoyed by the rural communities such as those in Long Terawan, Kampung Malinau, and Kampung Batu Bungan.”

He noted that the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation had said the MYSRBN programme would continue to be implemented in rural areas throughout the state.

He pointed out that Sarawak’s remote regions were not left behind in the implementation of digital infrastructure.

“School students and teachers can carry out learning and teaching online to improve the academic performance of our students here.”

Gerawat said that village residents could conduct business online with customers from cities as well as those from all around the world.

“If this internet facility is used wisely, it can be a platform to increase and diversify the economic resources or income of the local community.”
