KUCHING: From deep in rural Sarawak to the state’s capital city, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women Belaga Branch delegates are hopeful that the party will continue to thrive in bringing more development, particularly to the rural areas.

The branch is sending four women delegates comprising a Kayan, a Kejaman, a Kenyah and also a Malay to the three-day convention.

Fesilia Kuweng

“For nine years as the PBB Women Belaga branch chief, I am glad to see that our party did a great job in taking care of Sarawakians, especially those in the rural areas like us,” said Felisia Kuweng, 56.

“We are hopeful that with our presence at this TGM, coming far from our villages in Belaga, will spur the government to bring in more development to our areas.

“With Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), I believe change will happen for us in the rural areas,” said the women branch chief, who is of Kayan descent.

Martha Jangan

Her colleague, Martha Jangan, 58, a Kenyah from Sungai Belaga expressed similar sentiments of wanting to see PBB leading Sarawak and bringing more basic infrastructures to the remote areas.

Martha said it is great to see that her areas have been given basic infrastructures such as electricity and water supply.

“Another thing I am thankful for is the existence of roads. Having these roads and other basic amenities, I am very thankful. I want to see PBB to continue their efforts in improving the economy of the rural communities.”

Zarifah Suhai

Zarifah Suhai, 49 (Malay) and Kasing Senin, 40 (Kejaman), also shared their thoughts and hopes for the party, adding that PBB under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, would ensure that Sarawak become a developed and progressive state.

Zarifah added this year’s convention would provide them the opportunity to know the party’s current agenda for the state, especially on the development in rural areas like Belaga.

“We are considered to be at the edge of the state, far away from civilization. So I hope that the PBB TGM will be meaningful for us to know what is planned for the rural people.

Kesing Senin

“Our presence here is enough to show that we want PBB to focus on developing our areas as well as the community there, so this is what we want the party to focus on,” said Zarifah.

For Kasing, being here for the TGM means supporting the party all the way, while hoping that PBB would focus on the rural communities, particularly in Belaga, in the future.

She expressed high hope for the party led by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari to continue to be successful in leading Sarawak to become a developed state.
