BANDAR SIMANGGANG: The Musang King durian has in recent years captured a sizeable slice of the market and agriculture officials here are eager to get rural farmers benefit from its potential.

A Musang King durian module was introduced to 120 participants from nine longhouses recently under the government’s Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) to encourage them to go into this farming.

The AgriCOP was held at Rumah Bandi, Sebangkoi, Undop in Sri Aman, organised by the Sri Aman Division Agriculture Office last Friday.

The module centred on planting and caring of the Musang King, the use of Internet of Things and briefings from the Veterinary Department and the Community Welfare Department.

Community Welfare Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis was also present during the AgriCOP programme.

“I want to thank the agriculture office for taking the initiative to open up a big farm land by supplying the Musang King durian trees to families who are interested in planting and growing this durian breed.

“As we all know, the Musang King durian has high commercial value in the market and can bear fruit in between five and seven years.

“When it bears fruit, it will show that the Ulu Undop area can grow quality durian fruits which can be supplied at the collection centre,” he said in his speech at the closing of the programme.

Also present at the closing of AgriCOP were Sri Aman Division deputy resident Elvis Didit, Sri Aman agriculture officer Freddy Paul Giang Engie, Sri Aman welfare officer Shamat Kassim and Sri Aman District Council councillor Andar Suntai.
