Sarawak students in IPTA who are in semester 1 are eligible to apply for HGipt assistance on a 'one-off' basis.

Good news for first-year undergraduates from Sarawak; they can apply for the Sarawak Foundation Tertiary/Technical Institution Enrolment Assistance (HGiPT) incentive.

The incentive will be given to students who accept offers to study in any public institution of higher learning (IPTA) throughout the country, which include some selected private universities in Sarawak.

Sarawakians who are furthering their studies at institutes of higher learning, especially those coming from rural areas, are encouraged to apply.

The main goal of implementing this HGiPT incentive is to finance the initial cost of studies incurred by the students.

The main target of the HGiPT implementation is students who come from B40 families.

B40 is the definition used in Malaysia to indicate the household income with a monthly average of below RM4,850.

The HGiPT hopes to ease the burden of these B40 families in financing their children’s education when pursuing their studies at IPTA.

Mersal Abang Rosli

Sarawak Foundation director Mersal Abang Rosli in a statement informed the students applying for the incentive that they are also eligible to apply for Skim Pinjaman Pelajaran (Dalam Negara) if they get an offer to study in any IPTA.

He said the students are considered eligible for HGiPT incentives if the family income is at least RM1,500 per month.

“Students in rural areas who accept offers to study in public universities can apply for this scholarship and parents can serve as guarantors. Parents only need to furnish the confirmation of their income from respective community leaders, especially for those who do not have a monthly salary statement to support their children’s applications,” he said.

However, the incentive is only open to students in semester one only.
