SELANGAU: Residents in Bunau Oya, Pakoh no longer depend on using boats or rivers as their main mode of transportation after a former logging road there is upgraded.

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang who visited Rumah Udin Letan, Bunau Oya, Pakoh last Saturday said the villagers as well as several other longhouses nearby would enjoy better access to their longhouses.

“Rumah Udin Letan with its 16 rooms is one of the few longhouses located farthest in the Ulu Oya/Sekuau area.

“In the past, the residents here used the Batang Oya River as the main communication route,” he explained.

Hence, Gira had used the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) funds to upgrade the former logging roads to gravel roads and log bridges to iron bridges.

He said works on the projects were underway and expected to be completed by the end of this year.

In addition, he said, the longhouse residents including from Rumah Johnny and Rumah Anthony will soon enjoy 24-hour electricity under the Projek Rakyat allocation.

Gira explained that the electricity installation work has been completed while installation of meters at each room would be done soon.

“These facilities will provide more socio-economic opportunities and further improve the living standards of the people in this area,” he said.
