MUKAH: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah on Saturday visited two early childhood education centres here.

Both the centres, rural-based Taska Permata Kemas Kampung Jebungan and town-based Taska Sedidik Mutiara Mukah, have won the state quality awards 2019.

Taska Permata Kemas Kampung Jebungan won the first spot and brought home RM7,000 while Taska Sedidik Mutiara Mukah took the second spot to bring home RM6,000.

Fatimah congratulated the two nurseries, saying their victories proved that the objective to narrow the knowledge gap between rural and urban centres had been achieved.

“Operating from its own comfortable building which is in compliance with the authorities’ rules and regulations coupled with good quality care and education provided, Taska Permata Kemas Kampung Jebungan has proven that it can also do (deliver),” she said during the visit to the centre.

Replying to a request from Taska Permata Kemas Kampung Jebungan chairperson Dayang Norasimah Matnor on what sort of support Kemas teachers could get from Sarawak Foundation if they wanted to improve their academic grade and teaching quality, Fatimah advised her to check with the Sarawak Foundation in Kuching.

Fatimah said if a teacher wanted to upgrade herself in order to perform better in her job, she (teacher) has to be given appropriate support.

She advised the teacher concerned to get the necessary form from Sarawak Foundation online and give it to her for recommendation.

Norasimah, in her welcoming speech, requested Fatimah if she could assist a diploma holder (in early childhood education) teacher to source for finance as she planned to further her study to degree level.

At the event, she also handed a special annual grant amounting to RM5,000 to the nursery.
