KUCHING: Several road projects implemented in the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency by the Federal Rural Development Ministry has benefitted local dwellers.

Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said among them are the Rural Road Project (JPD) which enabled access to houses in Spaoh, Gedong.

“This implemented in collaboration with the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) which the construction began in Nov 2020 and was completed this March.

“This project is worth RM350,000 with a distance of 700 metres,” she said during her visit to inspect the completed project today (March 12).

Nancy said she was satisfied with the quality of the project implementation and expressed her appreciation to the federal government.

The Batang Sadong MP also inspected the JPD upgrade project leading to the entrance of SK Temiang, Simunjan district which can also be used by teachers and students of the school.

“Previously, the road leading to this school was dirt and large rocks, making it difficult for teachers and students to go to school,” she said.

She said, the good cooperation between the federal government and the state government allowed the people in rural areas to benefit from development.

Meanwhile, schoolteacher Christopher Stephen Jone who served at SK Temiang for 10 years, said the road conditions previously made it difficult to deliver food supplies and school equipment. He said this is now rectified.

“The road used to be rough and difficult to travel on. With the help of  Datuk Seri Nancy, when the road is upgraded, it allowed easier access by teachers and visitors to the school,” he said.

Kampung Temiang resident Japa Tambi also lauded the completion of the newly improved road which allowed goods to be transported easily.

“Thank you to Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri for building our road. In the past, our roads were not in this good condition, but now it has been upgraded,” he said.
