Rural road projects progressing well

KUCHING: Several rural road network (JPD) projects are progressing well in the Sibuti parliamentary constituency, said its MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

He said the road upgrading projects were implemented by the federal government through the Rural Development Ministry.

“The ministry has implemented an  JPD project to upgrade the paved road near Rumah Edward Ekau, Sungai Serunggut.

“I hope that this project, when completed, will benefit the rural dwellers and the local farmers here,” he said in a Facebook post today (Wednesday).

Lukanisman added the road upgrading projects were also implemented near Rumah Jorny Maringgai, Sg Keladan Lambir.

“The project is currently under construction. With the new road, it will be easier to build a new longhouse and transport agricultural products,” he said.

The MP said for the construction of a 15-door longhouse in the area, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) had approved a loan of RM30,000 per door with interest-free instalments for 25 years with RM100 paid per month.

Lukanisman said the project to upgrade the rural road leading to Giam Bakam was also progressing well.

He said besides upgrading the road, the construction there also involved the building of a culvert.

“This road will benefit oil palm and fruit smallholders in Kampung Bakam and will shorten the walking time to Giam/Bakam Waterfall which previously took 30 to 45 minutes,” he said.

The ongoing project for the road leading to Giam Bakam.
